In the middle of the living room we have a round table for miscellaneous stuff and it really is convenient. However my nephew is able to stand and likes to pull on the table. For it's made out of very light wood and the contents on the table are light, we are afraid he will flip the table.
At the moment his grandmother is moving it around to a corner in the living room. I want to get rid of the table because it only makes us put unnecessarily stuff on it. There was a time that even she planned to get rid of it but she isn't able of letting go off stuff.
As I once mentioned before "elders" get attached to things easier, at least those I know. Most of them weren't endowed while growing up. They had to work hard to for what they have. Considering that we live in a time where stuff come and goes, they grew up in a time where stuff is scarce.
I understand this and that's why when I go shopping with my mom, I ask her what she will replace with the new item and is she throwing the replaced item away. This sometimes leads to funny discussion in shops, my sister was once a audience and she finds us terrible. Discussing this while shopping, we look like housewifes aunties.
But if I don't do this our cupboard and shelves will be overflowing with stuff. It's also a way of re-appreciating the thing we have. I like to keep our cupboard as empty as possible for I am not a fan of washing dishes. If you have less stuff means less dishes to wash every time.
I think within a year I am even able to get rid of the table because it's not really important and she will find it a nuisance in the winter. But for the time being, I'll observe and keep reducing my own stuff.
