For example I'm kinda the electronic devices consultant. I don't have a degree on technical stuff but they still ask me. It's because I read a lot and listen to their expectation. Like when friends buy a laptop they consult their family and friends. I consult different kinds of website and search up on the components. Afterwards I look for the best deal online and in the shop.
They also call me when they need someone to bargain. Yes, a lot of people are afraid or feel ashamed to bargain and I don't. There was an example in my mathematics textbook on how people behave. When you can buy the same shirt in store A for full price and in store B at the end of the street for 5% off, a lot of people wouldn't go to store B because it's at the end of the street and the price difference is to small. But when it comes to electrical stuff they didn't hesitate to walk a little bit further.
I'm also asked where can you find that less expensive. I check the weekly offers regularly and check the price in the stores. So as to say you need to buy something, leave me some money and I buy it for you.
PS. Netherlands is supposedly on the track of environment friendly route. All cashiers nowadays ask if you want the receipt. I always say yes because if you need to return or its broken you need to prove you bought it in their stores. You can cut back with plastic bags and all but never ever on your receipt.
