Our rice pot is quite nice and it still works because it does. But the inner pot has in a few years time some scratches. It's very small but it's there. That's why instead of searching for a new rice cooker I searched for only a inner pot. My mom wanted to buy a new rice cooker because of it but I convinced her to look for a inner pot first. Especially when I told her the price difference of a whole new rice cooker and the pot. Instead of buying a new one for around €70,- she could also buy a €20,- inner pot. The price does matter and knowing that we need less material to survive on and that our appliances still works but sometimes it needs new items to function better.
Then you would think that just a few small scratches in the inner pot isn't that dangerous. I agree to a certain degree. But we use the rice cooker almost every day, why risk any long term health issue when it can be solved fast and easy. Learning to replace only the thing necessary is indeed difficult and you need a certain insight to decide. Only with practice was I able to make this calculated decision. In the past I would just throw the rice pot away but being more aware of the environment and the actual cost behind it, I've learned to appreciate replacing only parts of things.
