I have a radio that needs 4xUM-1 batteries or constantly being plugged in. At my place I couldn't find any one of them. Currently I have only cell batteries, AA and AAA. I thought UM-1 was the same as D batteries, turned out I bought the wrong one. Luckily I saved the receipt so I can return it.So I Youtubed some film and made sure to use my rechargeable batteries instead of one time use. I rolled up some carton and pushed back a bit of carton to hold it up. Now it works perfectly with only 4xAAA batteries which is rechargeable.
Having solutions using the things I have is better than always buying new stuff. But to be totally honest, I was afraid to use carton or paper in my electronics but knowing that the batteries are low in voltage and the times I use it is only for the alarm clock instead of the radio.
