It's December, December means present and that means a wishing list. As you may know I will not buy anything special in December it doesn't mean that I don't have anything special on my list. My bare essentials consist of food, knowledge and skin care.
As a free mind I love food and with that I need stuff to make the food eatable. So on my wishing list there is a pan, a citrus press and a porcelain coffee filter holder. Because it's the holiday season the prices are a bit high but I know what a bargain is when I see it. Such as a porcelain coffee holder shouldn't cost more than €6,- A good electronic citrus pres with a high wattage can't be priced above €50,- A pan or a set of pan cannot cost more than €50,-.
Yes, I make not only a list I also priced them. So I never make a purchase that I didn't intend to make. Especially with electronic equipment it's tricky. I want a e-reader that doesn't need to be charger in a month and is nice to read outside, the price is also €50,-.
In October I already bought the luxury Luffa Sponge priced at €2,- for my face so now I don't need anything special.
But knowing what I need makes looking for that exact deal so much easier. My wishing list is a bit short but reasonable. For a minimalist it's fine and who said I can only own 100 items. Don't forget that I do need to get rid of two items after getting one new item.
Being greedy isn't a sin but knowing where to stop is essential.

Waiting!
The worst thing about December is waiting for the new year to come. In this month there is excess commercials and special deals on items. The temptation to buy something is so big, even window shopping becomes a dangerous activity with all those discount stickers.
I am fortunate to actually know the real prices for those products so I am not going to get fooled by those prices. The only thing I always get before the new year is new clothing and with coupons I got a 30% discount on the item I want.
So when everybody is buying till they drop, I am waiting for the best deal that has yet to come. The thing with electronics is that every year around March or April there will be a new version of something. So around January and February the shops try to get rid off old stock, which means discount.
There is no electronic device that I really want so what to do? In January and February I start to buy presents for that year. So knowing the person around me what they actually need and I buy it when there is a discount for it.
December is the most expensive month in the year but by postponing my purchases I get the best deals. This month is also the time to think what is going out the house especially when the rule: one item, two items out applies. It makes buying stuff a process to minimize the amount of stuff I got. It also makes clear what you really need.
Minimalism is thinking about the things you need!
